Consumer Healthcare applications

A variety of consumer products can be developed utilizing Cavilink  porous polymer technology. Most of these applications involve the high level of absorbency offered by polymers that exhibit porosities of 90% or greater.

Cosmetics and Skin Care

The large, interconnected cavities of Cavilink^TM polymers are ideally suited for containment and delivery of active cosmetic and skin care ingredients. Porosities of up to 90% provide a large containment volume, substantially greater than conventional porous polymers. Cavilink materials can be prepared using a variety of monomers and can exhibit granularity suitable for exfoliation. Other polymer materials can be prepared for delivery of active cosmetic ingredients that will provide smooth, cream-like application to the skin.  Reactive ingredients can be encapsulated within the Cavilink spheres to prevent interaction with the environment until the spheres are crushed or broken.

Feminine Care Products

Certain Cavilink polymers, prepared from specific hydrophilic monomers, have been shown to absorb and retain blood and cellular debris associated with menses. These polymers will bind and retain menstrual fluids substantially better than conventional absorbent materials.  

Superabsorbers

Certain hydrophilic Cavilink polymers display superior absorbent properties compared with existing commercial polymers. The unique, patented Cavilink morphology enables extremely rapid uptake of aqueous materials, up to twenty times faster than conventional superabsorbers. Furthermore, the gross absorbency of these materials is substantially higher than existing polymers. (see supporting data in Highly Porous Polymers)
